Women’s Swimming Split in Final Dual Meets of the Season

Pride celebrate Shefalee Rane and Sally Meyers on Senior Day

CHESTER, Pa. – In the final dual meets of the season, Widener Women's Swimming celebrated their senior class and split results against Ramapo and Misericordia.
 
The Pride took a 164-94 win over Ramapo and a 156-104 loss against Misericordia to end the dual meet season 6-4 and 2-3 in the conference.
 
Following the senior day ceremony, Widener opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The quad of Sophia Sapnas, Anna Durboraw, Mary Sanders, and Sally Meyers would take first with a 1:56.81 to get the meet started.
 
In the 1000-yard free, Lauren Kalsbeek kept the trend going with a win with a 11:12.05 touching with a 10 second gap.
 
Caroline Anderson would sneak into third in the 100-yard backstroke. Anderson would earn a 1:05.80 to lead Sapnas with a 1:06.23.
 
Meyers showed her butterfly dominance with a win in the 200-yard butterfly. Meyers took the race by three seconds with a 2:22.84.
 
After the break, Meyers led a 3-4-5 finish in the 100-yard free. Meyers would register a 58.47. Olivia Giambalvo stopped the clock in a 59.83 and Margaret Eckenroth would earn her conference championship cut with a 1:00.41 to mark a new season best.
 
Kalsbeek snagged her second individual win in the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 2:17.58. Jenna Angelucci took third with a 2:23.60 earning points as well.
 
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Durboraw took a third-place finish after registering a 2:48.07.
 
The 500-yard free featured Meyers once more. Meyers took second after a long meet lineup with a 5:36.60 to fall just shy of the Cougars' Bernard.
 
Sanders took third in the 100-yard butterfly in a 1:03.19 to give herself a three second cushion from fourth.
 
Closing out the individual racing was Kalsbeek with a 2:21.36 in the 200-yard individual medley.
 
The final relay of the dual meet season was brought to an end with the A relay (Sapnas, Giambalvo, Olivia Downs, and Kalsbeek) touching second in 1:44.94 just missing first by 0.70. The B relay (Caitlin Blaum, Patricia McDonald, Kaitlyn Fahy, and Anderson) finished behind the A with a 1:49.83.

Widener heads to the MAC Championships from Thursday to Sunday, Feb. 15 to 18. MAC Championships are set to be contested at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. More information will be released by the conference office in the coming future.
