Widener Athletics Faculty Advisor Partnership 

The program will afford student-athletes an opportunity to learn and to be mentored by professors outside the classroom by connecting athletic teams with faculty members interested in participating.   

This opportunity will encourage engagement, while leading and inspiring student-athletes in competition, the classroom, and the community, highlighting the student experience. 

The Athletic Faculty Advisor program is designed to support student-athletes by increasing communication and strengthening connections among student-athletes, coaches, and faculty. By creating a stronger network around the student-athletes, we hope to maximize the potential for each student-athlete to reach the goal of excellence in both academic and athletic pursuits. The faculty-fellow role is not limited to a one-year commitment to an athletic-assigned program. 

• Promote mutual appreciation and increase communication among student-athletes, coaches, and faculty 

• Expand the support network and resources for student-athletes 

• Create a more-solid bridge between the academic and athletic worlds of student-athletes

• Increase the attraction for top high school scholar athletes

The program is flexible in encouraging a broad range of activities, from which faculty members can pick those that meet their scheduling needs, while not requiring an unreasonable time commitment: 

• Be available to counsel athletes with academic and other conflicts they may encounter 

• Attend a practice, a contest, and/or team meeting 

• Sit on the sideline 

• Participate in a team dinner, banquets, or other activities in a less-structured setting 

• Get to know the team members by name – build relationships 

• Stay involved / connected out of season 

• Serve as a recruiting contact for potential Widener students 

• Participate in a team's community service project
