Athletic Training


The athletic training staff is located in the Wellness Center, which opened in the spring of 2006. The staff is responsible for the conditioning and rehabilitation of over 500 Widener University student-athletes representing over 20 sports.

The staff consists of three full-time athletic trainers, as well as several graduate and athletic training student interns. The athletic trainers have a bevy of equipment at their disposal, ranging from separate MD exam rooms, two walk-in whirlpools with one cold plunge and one warm, up-to-date electro modalities, and rehabilitation equipment.

Personnel

David Webner, M.D.
David Webner, MD has been the team physician for the Pride since 2016. He is one of the area's leading experts in concussion care and is Board-certified both in Sports Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine. Dr. Webner's office is located in nearby Springfield, Pa. at the Healthplex Sports Medicine Institute, and he is also the Fellowship Director of the Crozer-Keystone Health System sports medicine fellowship in Delaware County, Pa. His main research interests include endurance sports medicine and concussions in sport. He was the recipient of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society team physician award in June 2019. Dr. Webner's sports medicine practice includes recreational, amateur, and professional athletes of all ages with musculoskeletal injuries and sports concussions. In addition to Widener, he is also the team physician for the Philadelphia Union and Interboro High School.

Visiting Team Information

The Cellini Athletic Training Room is located on the lower level of our Pride Recreation Center. There is also a satellite facility located at the North end of Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Our motto is simply: "If we have it, you can use it. If we don't, you can't." Please feel free to contact us for any special needs. We will accommodate you as best as we can. The athletic training room will be open at least 90 minutes prior to the event and will close within 30 minutes after the event.

The following will be provided:
  1. Water coolers and injury ice will be provided.
  2. All student-athletes should bring their own water bottle.
  3. If an AT is traveling, notify us in advance. We will set up a taping table.
    1. No modalities are available at this time.
  4. If an AT is not traveling, notify us in advance, or provide a list of student-athlete needs. Please send a medical kit with adequate supplies.
