Midseason Weekend Wraps with Top Swims from Block at Spartan Splash

YORK, Pa. – A three day trials-finals weekend showed a handful of Widener women's swimmers in finals as Tyla Block earns three.
 
DAY 1 – FRIDAY (139 Total Points | 4th Place)
  • The Pride would open with a 3rd place in the 200-yard free relay. Caroline Anderson, Hailey Webster, Olivia Giambalvo, and Megan Shallow would clock a 1:41.92.
  • Tyla Block, Kaitlyn Fahy, and Caileigh Foveaux snuck into the B final of the 200-yard individual medley. Block would lead with a 2:23.49 to just miss first. Fahy clocked a 2:24.15 while Foveaux's first final in a collegiate meet showed a 2:27.77.
  • Shallow and Webster took third and sixth in the 50-yard free A final as Shallow splashed a 24.94. Webster would hold a 25.63 to better her preliminary time. The B final showed Patsy McDonald with a 26.84.
  • Shallow, Bella Fanelli, Fahy, and Webster took fourth in the 400-yard medley relay. The four would show a 4:15.15.
DAY 2 – SATURDAY (308 Total Points | 4th Place)
  • On day two, Anderson, Webster, Emily Thompson, and Shallow took third in the 200-yard medley relay. The quad clocked in a 1:52.25.
  • The 100-yard butterfly A final showed Fahy and Thompson. Fahy took sixth with a 1:03.38 and Thompson took eighth with a 1:04.72. Kylie Rodi placed fifth in the B final with a 1:07.80 and Taylor Sholl took eighth with a 1:09.89.
  • Giambalvo took second in the B final with a 2:07.01 in the 200-yard free for a new season best.
  • Webster's 100-yard breaststroke showed a fourth in the A final with a 1:09.57. Fanelli and Thompson would take a 2-3 finish in the B. Thompson led with a 1:12.31 and Fanelli bettered her morning swim with a 1:12.74.
  • Anderson and Block finished in the top eight with a 1:02.75 and 1:05.90 in the 100-yard backstroke. Rodi and Foveaux swam a 1:06.24 and a 1:07.14 in the B.
  • The night would end with a fifth in the 800-yard free relay. Shallow, Block, Fanelli, and Kaitlyn Beden clocked a final time of 8:34.36.
DAY 3 – SUNDAY (459 Total Points | 4th Place)
  • A timed final event showed an 11th place finish for Beden in the 1650. Beden's mile showed a 20:18.29.
  • Anderson continued her weekend in the A final in the 200-yard backstroke. Anderson showed a 2:20.06. Block (2:21.91), Foveaux (2:24.62), Brianna Maier (2:27.40), and Rodi (2:30.92) took the B final.
  • Shallow took third in the 100-yard free with a 54.07 while Giambalvo touched with a 56.72.
  • Fanelli's 200-yard breaststroke showed a 2:35.16. Webster would take second in the B final with a 2:36.81 alongside Thompson with a 2:42.92.
  • Fahy's final individual showed a second in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:19.68.
  • The weekend wrapped with a third overall in the 400-yard free relay as Anderson, Giambalvo, Block, and Thompson touched with a 3:50.56.

Widener returns to the Schwartz Athletic Center on Saturday, December 6 against 2-5 (2-4 Centennial) Washington College Shorewomen. The senior day meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
