Women’s Swimming Snags Fifth at Conference Championships

YORK, Pa. – Sophomore Tyla Block shows time dropping swims at MAC Championships to lead Widener women's swimming to fifth place finish.
 
The Pride swam to 766.5 points and placed 5th out of 11 teams.

DAY 1 – THURSDAY (176 Total Points | 5th Place)
  • Olivia Giambalvo got things going for the Pride in the A Final of the 500-yard free. Giambalvo would touch in a 5:26.62.
  • Tyla Block opened her meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley as she touched in a 2:19.71. Caileigh Foveaux took to the pool in the B Final also with a 2:25.18.
  • The C-Final wrapped up with two more Pride swimmers as Kaitlyn Fahy touched in a 2:25.30 and Bella Fanelli had her first collegiate final with a time of 2:26.83.
  • Megan Shallow took seventh in the 50-yard free A Final with a 25.04, dropping 0.14. Hailey Webster swam to a 25.94 in the B Final and Caroline Anderson hit in a 26.40 in the C Final.
  • Day one wrapped up with Anderson, Webster, Emily Thompson, and Shallow taking fifth in the 200-yard medley relay. The quad showed a 1:54.19 final time.
DAY 2 – FRIDAY (354 Total Points | 5th Place)
  • Night two opened with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard free relay. The quad of Shallow, Webster, Anderson, and Giambalvo clocked a 1:41.67. 
  • First year Brianna Maier had her first final where she took third in the C Final of the 400-yard individual medley. Maier registered a 5:22.13.
  • Thompson had her night showing a 1:04.25 in the B Final of the 100-yard butterfly. Fahy would have a C Final swim as she touched with a 1:05.03 to drop 0.74 from the morning.
  • Giambalvo's meet continued with a first place in the 200-yard free. The junior would showcase a 2:01.95 in the B Final to win by 0.20.
  • A 4:13.69 would come from Anderson, Webster, Thompson, and Giambalvo in the 800-yard free relay to end night two.
DAY 3 – SATURDAY (538 Total Points | 5th Place)
  • A back-to-back finish came in the 200-yard butterfly to open the night with Fahy and Foveaux. Fahy would touch in a 2:30.95 while Foveaux dropped time from her morning swim to a 2:34.72.
  • Anderson took fifth in 1:30.20 for the B Final of the 100-yard backstroke.
  • Block's 1:04.36 from the C Final took first after her morning drop in the 100-yard backstroke. Kylie Rodi had her first finals in the C Final where the senior clocked a 1:06.38 that would show a drop.
  • Olivia Wainstein took third in the B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke. Wainstein's 1:01.76 would be a one second drop from the morning. The stacked B Final would also show Webster, Fanelli, and Thompson. Webster touched in a 1:11.28, Fanelli in a 1:12.06, and Thompson in a 1:12.54.
  • A 8:14.35 from Giambalvo, Block, Shallow, and Foveaux placed the quad fifth in the 800-yard free relay. Shallow would lead the four with a 2:00.08 in the third spot on the relay.
DAY 4 – SUNDAY (766.5 Total Points | 5th Place)
  • Giambalvo opened the final day with a seventh-place finish in the timed final 1650-yard free. The junior clocked an 11:21.68. Kaitlyn Beden would show a 12:12.73 from the afternoon session.
  • Shallow's A Final in the 100-yard free showed a 54.45, just off her morning swim.
  • The B Final of the 200-yard backstroke would hold three from the Pride. Anderson would capture the win with a 2:17.47. Block took a tie for third with a 2:19.49 to drop slightly from the morning.
  • Rodi wrapped up her collegiate individual career with a 2:27.77.
  • The C Final in the backstroke would hold Foveaux taking a 2:24.60 top drop two seconds and Brianna Maier matching her morning swim of 2:26.10.
  • The final individual event of the meet would come in the 200-yard breaststroke. In the B Final, Olivia Wainstein would take second to lead Fanelli. Wainstein would hit the pad with a 2:34.97. Fanelli would hit with a 2:34.45. The stacked heat also showed Thompson touching in a 2:38.85 and Webster hitting the wall with a 2:39.79. All four would drop time from the morning.
  • Giambalvo, Webster, Anderson, and Shallow capped off the four-day weekend in the 400-yard free relay with a final time of 3:44.60. The quad took sixth overall.
