Sophomore Josh Fox (Wynnewood, PA) scored five goals for Widener, including three in the span of 1:21 to highlight a 13-4 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over King's in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Widener scored the only three goals of the first quarter. Freshman Robert Clemens (Aston, PA) opened the scoring just 3:25 in. Fox and junior Michael Bassani (Califon, NJ) also added unassisted tallies in the period.
King's got one back just 2:26 into the second when Kieran McMahon assisted Pat Bonnot, but Widener closed out the half with four unanswered goals, including three man-up scores in just 1:29. Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) scored back-to-back man-up goals just 54 seconds apart to make it 6-1 with 5:05 left in the second stanza, and JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) fired home another just 35 seconds later. The Pride outshot King's 20-5 in the first half.
After both teams scored twice in the third quarter, Fox put an exclamation point on the win early in the fourth with his natural hat trick. All three goals came within the first 4:18 of the period, the third of which gave Widener a 12-3 lead.
Widener went 5-for-10 on extra-man opportunities, holding King's to just 1-of-6.
Clemens finished with a goal and two assists for the Pride (11-2, 9-0 MAC). Bassani and junior Whitney Bruemmer (Southampton, PA) had a goal and an assist each.
Lenny Fox notched a goal and an assist for the Monarchs (5-9, 3-6).
Widener earns a first-round bye in the Middle Atlantic Conference tournament and will host an opponent to be determined Wednesday, May 4 at 7:00 pm. The Pride on Tuesday host DeSales in their final home game of the regular season, beginning at 7:00 pm.
