Men's Lacrosse End Season Campaign at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Widener Men's Lacrosse close out the regular season with a loss to Messiah.
 
The 18-3 loss puts the Pride at 3-13 at the end of the regular season and 1-6 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With one final game to play, the Pride would open with a strong defense stance as Liam Reilly and Haverstrom forced turnovers. The first goal would be scored with 7:13 left by the Falcons. The attacking side would show shots from Liam Drake and Haverstrom. Shimko would score with 1:27 left off a Haverstrom pass. The first ended with the Pride down 5-1.
     
  • Matthew Shingle won the second period faceoff before the Pride gave the ball to the Falcons. The Falcons would score four back-to-back goals to take a 9-1 lead with 11:37 left. Schmitz registered a handful of saves before Marino scored an unassisted goal with 5:38 left. Rowan Coverdale came away with the final faceoff win of the half to end with a 10-2 halftime score.
     
  • The Falcons struck first to open the second half. Pride shots would fly from Matt Horgan and Haverstrom to force a Pride timeout. A defensive stretch would chew clock in the third while Schmitz registered another save to end the third down 14-2.
     
  • Shingle snagged a faceoff win to start the final 15 as Shimko would rip an early shot. Three Falcons goals came quick before the Falcons went on the attacking. Nolan Schemmer forced a turnover to give Knepp an unassisted goal with 5:31 left. Final shots would be seen from Knepp as the final regular season game ended with an 18-3 final.
