Football to Host Waynesburg in ECAC South Atlantic Bowl on Saturday

Widener makes another trip to postseason as it will host the ECAC South Atlantic Bowl against Waynesburg on Saturday at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Game time is 1:00 pm.

This will be Widener's fifth appearance in an ECAC bowl and it is 2-2 in those contests.  The squad suffered a 38-6 loss at Kings Point in 1984 and a 15-7 home loss to Montclair State in 1998.  Widener rebounded with a 27-18 home victory against Montclair State in 2005 and a 14-7 triumph at Ursinus in 2006.

It also will be the Pride's 30th postseason contest in school history.  It is 17-12 all-time that includes a 15-10 mark in the NCAA Tournament.  This is the 17th season in the squad's illustrious history it will compete in a postseason contest.

The Pride (8-2, 6-2 MAC) have posted their best record after 10 games since the 2002 squad went 9-1.  Widener also has scored 470 points this season, the fourth-highest mark in school history.  Third place is 500 points scored in 1980 and first is 592 points amassed in 2001.

Widener was fifth as of Wednesday, November 9 in the NCAA East Regional Rankings.  The Pride earlier this season received votes in the AFCA Coaches Top 25 Poll and the D3Football.com Top 25 Poll.

The Pride are third in the nation with 47 points per game, 26th in total offense at 445.9 yards per contest and 88th in total defense.

One of the main reasons for this run is junior quarterback Chris Haupt (Bloomsburg, PA), who has taken a firm control of the offense.  He is 38th in the country and second in the conference with 263.2 yards of total offense per game, first in the league with 255.5 yards per contest and has thrown for at least 200 yards in eight games this year.

Senior wide receiver Cedrick Clayton (Cinnaminson, NJ) has had another exceptional season, one year after being picked first team All-MAC.  He sits second in the MAC and 58th in the country with 5.7 receptions per game, fourth in the league as well as 58th in the nation with 84.1 receiving yards per contest and tied for fifth in the conference with 10 touchdowns.

Sophomore outside linebacker Dylan Ditmer (Exton, PA) has enjoyed a strong year.  He is fourth in the league with 7.7 tackles per game, 20th with 6.5 tackles for a loss and tied for first with four forced fumbles.

Junior Joe Wojceichowski (Riverside, NJ) has made a strong transition to middle linebacker, one year after being named second team all-league at outside linebacker.  This season, he is 16th in the league with 6.3 tackles per game, second on the team with 45 solo tackles and tied for first with two interceptions.

On special teams, sophomore All-American Laquan Robinson (Chester, PA) has two kickoff returns for touchdowns and two punt returns for a score.  Freshman Anthony Davis (Upland, PA) is first in the country with 29.6 punt return yards per game and has taken back three for touchdowns.

This is the first meeting between the schools.  Waynesburg (5-4, 5-3 PAC) competes in the Presidents' Athletic Conference and notched a four-game winning streak earlier this season.  Widener earlier this season played at Thiel from the PAC and rolled to a 44-14 triumph.
