CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Athletics concludes its Black History Month celebration by recognizing Hall of Famer, Richie Weaver, one of the most accomplished multi-sport athletes in university history.

A member of the Class of 1973 and a 2016 inductee into the Widener Athletics Hall of Fame, Weaver excelled both on the track and on the football field, earning national recognition in each sport.

In track & field, Weaver was a two-time All-American and captured the national championship in the 440-meter intermediate hurdles in 1970, cementing his place among the elite hurdlers in the country.

On the gridiron, Weaver rewrote the record books. He graduated holding 10 Middle Atlantic Conference records and 10 school records. In 1971, he was named a Football All-American after rushing for a then single-season program record of 1,267 yards. He concluded his career with 2,604 rushing yards, a Widener record at the time of his graduation.

Perhaps most remarkably, Weaver's 363-yard rushing performance against Moravian on November 7, 1970 remains both a Middle Atlantic Conference and ECAC single-game record to this day, a testament to one of the most dominant performances in conference history.

As Widener Athletics' final Black History Month spotlight, Richie Weaver's legacy stands as a powerful reminder of the excellence, determination, and lasting impact of Black student-athletes who have shaped the Pride tradition.
