NEWTOWN, Pa. – The conference office announced last week that three Widener student-athletes earned spots on the Fall 2025 Academic All-MAC list.
The Pride's three were
Kathryn Long,
Luke Shimko, and
Luke Shaeffer.
Voted on by the MAC's sports information directors, the Academic All-MAC award recognizes student-athletes for both athletic and academic excellence, with each counting for 50%. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a fall semester GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Shimko and Shaeffer showcased their impact during a 4-6 (3-6 MAC) season. Sophomore Shimko anchored the Pride's defense, finishing the 10-game campaign with 83 tackles, four TFLs, two sacks, three interceptions, five quarterback hurries, and a touchdown. Shaeffer contributed alongside Shimko with 62 tackles, two TFLs, an interception, and two forced fumbles. Together, they were instrumental in the Pride's overtime victory over FDU-Florham and a come-from-behind win against King's.
Long earned her second selection to the team following a record-breaking season. The Clifford Twp., Pa. native qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year, finishing with a time of 23:09.7. The weekend prior, she shattered her own Widener record with a 21:12.4 at the NCAA Metro Regionals and secured a third-place finish at the MAC Championships, earning First Team All-Conference honors.
