NEWTOWN, Pa. -
Katelyn Tong of Widener softball was red-hot batting all week, acting as a key factor in the 4-2 week and earning her MAC Player of the Week.
Tong and the Pride rolled to a 4-2 week while going 2-2 in conference play. On Wednesday evening, Tong would help the Pride to a 7-4 win in nine innings and a 10-3 win in the second game against Albright. During those two games, Tong hit three home runs and drove in four. A night to remember would happen on Thursday as Tong helped the Pride to another pair of wins against Elizabethtown. During game one, the Lansdowne, Pa. native helped start the rally train in the bottom of the fifth to save the mercy rule with a grand slam with two outs on the board. That game would also see another RBI brought in as the Pride took a 12-11 win. Game two featured extra innings as they came back from a 12-7 deficit in the top of the eighth. Tong would help the Pride with two doubles, three RBIs, and two runs. A weekend loss to Hood (13-3 5 Inn. and 10-2 6 Inn.) would show a double, an RBI, and two hits and she ended the week with four home runs.
The Pride will play their penultimate game of the season against the Knights of Neumann on Thursday, April 24th. The first pitch is set for 4pm.Â
