HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
-
Widener and Delaware Valley traded scoreless innings early, as both teams were held in check through the first two frames. In the top of the third, Widener broke through when Elizabeth Carney lined an RBI double to drive in the game's first run, giving the Pride a 1-0 lead. Widener's momentum continued into the fourth, where they put together a big inning. Alyssa Gomez smashed a two-RBI double to extend the lead, and Sam McCarthy added an RBI single to cap a four-run frame for Widener. By the end of the fourth inning, Widener led 5-0.
-
Delaware Valley fought back with two runs in the bottom of the third and later mounted a larger comeback in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings, taking advantage of a few Widener errors. Widener added an insurance run in the seventh when Taylor Bell doubled and eventually scored, but the Aggies' offense answered with enough production to edge past the Pride. Despite Widener's eight hits—including key doubles from Leah Digandomenico and Bell—the comeback fell short, and Widener dropped a close one by a final score of 7-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
-
Widener's offense got off to a slow start in the second game, despite strong early swings. Taylor Bell started things off with a double in the first inning, but Widener was unable to cash in the opportunity. Caitlyn Katchur also singled to keep the pressure on in the second inning, but again Widener couldn't push across a run. Delaware Valley took control with an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning and adding three more in the third. After three innings, Widener trailed 4-0.
-
In the fourth inning, Widener continued to battle as Katchur and Bell each picked up hits, but the Pride could not convert them into runs. Delaware Valley broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run burst, pushing their lead to 8-0. Despite a hit by Jocelin Mayorga and strong defensive efforts from players like Julia Yogis, Widener was unable to mount a comeback. The game concluded after five innings by run rule, with Widener falling by a final score of 8-0.
