HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE

  • Messiah struck first with a run in the third inning before breaking the game open in the fourth with a six-run outburst, putting Widener in an early hole. Despite the deficit, Widener began to chip away, starting with Kaelin Kuester scoring in the fourth after doubling and coming around on a productive inning. By the end of the top of the fourth, Messiah held a commanding 7-1 lead.

  •  Widener's offense came alive in the later innings. In the fifth, Sam McCarthy sparked a rally with an RBI single, followed by Alyssa Gomez driving in two more runs to tighten the score. Paris Balilonis added a clutch two-RBI double to cap a five-run surge, pulling Widener within striking distance at 7-6. However, Messiah added an insurance run in the sixth, and despite Widener's efforts, they couldn't complete the comeback, falling 8-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO

  • Messiah came out strong in Game 2, posting four runs in the first inning to take immediate control. Widener struggled to respond offensively in the early frames, though Jocelin Mayorga managed to reach base in the second inning with a single. Messiah extended their lead with two more runs in the third and another in the fourth, making it 7-0 by the top of the fourth.

  •  Widener showed some fight late, with Leah DiGiandomenico collecting a hit and Mayorga drawing a walk and stealing a base in an attempt to generate offense. Defensively, Sam McCarthy and Paris Balilonis anchored the infield with solid plays. However, Messiah added one final run in the fifth, and Widener was unable to avoid the run-rule, dropping the game 8-0 in five innings.
