Barr of Women’s Indoor Track and Field Sets Widener Record In Final Prep for NCAA Championships

NEW YORK – Racing continues at the Armory Track & Field Center for the Widener women's indoor track and field team in final preps for the 2023 NCAA Championships.

A handful of the team traveled to the AARTFC Championships to better their chances of qualifications to next weekend's Nationals.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN NEW YORK

In the 60-meter dash, Maria Muzzarelli and Jayla Gore continued their dominance. Muzzarelli clocked a 7.77 which was just off her personal best set last weekend at the 2023 MAC Indoor Championships. Her time of 6.68 currently ranks her 17th in the nation while her past weekend time would sit her at 36th. The first year continued her season bests with 7.80. Gore's time is good enough to rank her tied for 43rd in the country.

First year Kelly Bar would run a 58.63 in the 400-meters that earned her a new personal best. Barr fell just shy of breaking the top 50 list by .26. Despite not cracking the top 50 list, her time would set a new Widener school record.

Donna Holt ran an Indoor personal best in the 800-meter run to move up in Widener's All Time Top 10 lists to second just behind Katelyn Bernotas. Holt's 2:18.98 was just shy of her Outdoor personal best of a 2:17.29.

In the 3000-meter run, Carly Gable paced out to a 10:30.42 which would improve her time from last weekend's 2023 MAC Indoor Championship time by three seconds. Gable currently ranks third in conference standings from her run at the 2023 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invite.

The 60-meter hurdles brought Sydni Bell to the track. Bell clocked a 9.62 which just misses her personal best of a 9.59.

The distance medley relay team of Emily Cooney (3:50.51), Emma Schultz (1:01.11), Jaden Sweely (2:23.53), and Carly Gable (5:10.93) won the event from the first section and set a new school record by over 10 seconds.

In the field events, senior Savannah Steger set a new personal best in the pole vault. Steger's mark of 3.41-meters just outdid her previous height of 3.40-meters. After the personal best performance, Steger ranks second in Widener's All Time Top 10 list.
