CHESTER, Pa. – Widener women's indoor track and field is aiming for a strong performance at the MAC Championships. This year's host is Alvernia University in Reading, Pa. The event will take place on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25.
Misericordia University took home first place in the 2022 championships, with Widener coming in second.
This past Saturday, on Feb. 18, the Pride competed at the Keogh Invitational at Haverford College.
Senior
Savannah Steger recorded a college-best 3.35 meters in pole vault on Feb. 11. At the Keogh Invitational, she had a career-best in the high jump with 1.42m. Steger currently ranks third in the pole vault conference rankings.
Junior
Gabby Nye had her college-best in the 3000-meter race on Jan. 21. She recorded a time of 10:20.23. On Feb. 4, she ran 800 meters in 2:28.95, which was good for seventh place. Nye is at the top of the MAC for both the mile and 3000 meters.
Senior
Emily Cooney ran a 10:38.54 on Jan. 28 at the McElligott Invitational 3000-meter run. That was her best time for that event as a college athlete. At the Plex Shootout, she placed second with a time of 18:42.20 in the 5000-meter run. Cooney sits at fifth in the conference rankings for 5000 meters.
Sophomore
Maria Muzzarelli placed a college-best 5.02 meters in the Keogh Invitational long jump, earning her first place. She also claimed the top spot at the NYU DIII Invitational 60-meter dash on Feb. 3 with a time of 7.81 seconds. Muzzarelli ranks eighth in conference long-jump rankings.
The Pride will be at Alvernia for the third time this season. The previous dates were Jan. 14 for the Alvernia Winter Invite and Feb. 11 for the Plex Shootout.
The 2023 MAC Championships is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
