Widener Women’s Track and Field Athletes Named to Prestigious Honor

The USTFCCCA Announced the List on Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS – Eleven Widener women's track and field athletes have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Honors.

According to the conference, "To be named all-region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in their respective region according to the final [Track and Field Results Reporting System] data or be part of top-3 relay team."

Out of the 66 individuals named to this list in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), 41 were women.

The athletes that have been named to this honor include first-year Sydni Bell (pentathlon), junior Liz Egan (5,000m), senior Carly Gable, (3,000m, 5,000m, distance-medley relay), first-year Jayla Gore (60m), junior Donna Holt (800m), sophomore Maria Muzzarelli (60m), junior Gabriella Nye (mile, 3,000m, 5,000m), and senior Savannah Steger (pole vault). Senior Emily Cooney, sophomore Emma Schultz, junior Jaden Sweely, and Gable were named for DMR.

Gore clocked in at 7.8 seconds in 60 meters, which was third-best in the conference this year. Her teammate, Muzzarelli, was the top athlete in that category with 7.68 seconds.

Steger hit 3.41m at the AARTFC Championships in pole vault. That was .15m better than the next athletes.

Bell recorded a time of 9.62 for 60 hurdles at the AARTFC Championships. It was just shy of her personal best 9.59.

Egan sits at third in the MAC for 5000 meters. She ran 18:19.59 last month, which was a personal best for her.

Holt ranks first in the conference for 800 meters and was part of the group that took first place in the 4x800 relay last month.

Nye ranks first in the conference for the mile, second in 3000 meters, and fourth in 5000 meters. She is also part of the quartet that placed first in the conference for 4x800 meter relay.

The quartet for the distance-medley relay (Cooney, Schultz, Sweely, and Gable) came in first at the AARTFC Championships this past weekend. Their time was 12:26.07, almost a whole second better than the runner-up.

Muzzarelli will be heading to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 10-11.
