CHESTER, Pa. – Widener men's lacrosse interim head coach
Robb Chambers has announced the team's schedule for the 2023 season. The Pride are looking to build upon their 8-9 record from 2022, where they won five out of eight games played against opponents in the MAC Commonwealth). Players returning for the new season include First Team MAC All-Conference
Connor Heisman, and seniors
Drew Venit,
Nick DiCicco, and
Dylan Vega.
"We are looking forward to another competitive season with a strong strength of schedule," Chambers said. "Having a game against Shenandoah early in the season gives us a great look at what we need to build on. That game will set us up well for top ranked York and Stevenson later on in the season. The coaching staff is eagerly awaiting to see what the team has in store this season and are excited to see what
Connor Heisman can do on offense."
The 2023 schedule is comprised of high-level teams, two of which are regionally ranked and fall in conference play.
The Pride begin their 2023 campaign at home against Swarthmore on February 18. Two more home games follow on February 25 against Shenandoah and March 4 against Washington College.
The men hit the road for their first away game of the season four days later on March 8 for a game against Stockton. 10 days later, the Blue and Gold return to the road for a noon faceoff against Elizabethtown.
In April, the Pride see a stretch of three of five road games, beginning at Eastern on April 1. Chambers' team would like to improve from their 3-6 away record in 2022.
Men's lacrosse faces eight MAC Commonwealth opponents, all in succession, from March 29 to April 29. Those eight games start with a home game against Lebanon Valley and will conclude against MAC Commonwealth champion York.
Following regular season play, Widener will look to begin postseason play on May 1 in the MAC Commonwealth tournament. The conference tournament will conclude on May 6.
