CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener softball team fought against Eastern, but the Eagles came away with a sweep in their MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Wednesday at the Widener University softball field.
The Pride dropped a 10-6 game in the opener, then fell by a 1-0 count in the nightcap.
Widener is now 18-12 overall and 4-6 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN IN GAME 1
- After the Eagles took a 5-1 lead through two innings, the Pride came back to take a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning after pushing across five runs. Ally McDowell started the rally by scoring on an error, then Liz Renavitz and Bri Milz hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game. Then, Mikaela Lovell smacked a two-run triple to grove Widener the lead.
- Unfortunately, the Eagles scored four runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to seal the win.
- Lovell led the Pride at the plate, going 3-for-4 with her triple and two RBIs. Milz also had a multi hit game, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN IN GAME 2
- The Pride and the Eagles were scoreless through six innings until Eastern hit a solo home run in the seventh to take the lead., The Pride were unable to bring home any runs to tie or win the game.
- Despite the loss, Liz Renavitz pitched a stellar game in the circle for Widener, allowing only one run on three hits in a complete-game effort.
- Lovell, Renavitz, Mikayla Fedele, Malia Calciano, and Jalia Lawrence each had a hit for the Pride in the loss.

The Pride will hit the road this weekend as they face Stevenson in a MAC doubleheader matchup Saturday afternoon in Owings Mills, Md. Game one is set for 1 p.m. and game two is set to follow at 3 p.m.
