OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Widener softball team earned a split against Stevenson in their MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
The Pride dropped an 8-0 game in five innings in the opener, but bounced back to win by a 4-2 count in the second game.
Widener is now 19-13 overall and 5-7 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON IN GAME 2
- With the game tied at 2 through four innings, the Pride grabbed the lead for good in the fifth after Ally McDowell hit an RBI triple and Becca Tiley followed with an RBI single.
- From there, Mikayla Fedele pitched two more scoreless innings to cap her complete-game effort in the circle. Fedele allowed only one earned run on five hits to pick up her seventh win of the season.
- Jalia Lawrence had an RBI single and Fedele pushed across a run on a sacrifice bunt in the second inning to highlight the scoring for the Pride.
- Kaylin Johnson and Liz Renavitz had two hits apiece to lead the Pride at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON IN GAME 1
- Stevenson scored at least one run in each of the five innings. The Mustangs had two runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth.
- Mikaela Lovell, Malia Calciano, Renavitz, Fedele, and Bri Milz each had a hit in the loss. Lovell had the only extra-base hit in the game, hitting a double.
UP NEXT
The Pride will hit the road again Wednesday to face Lebanon Valley in a MAC doubleheader afternoon. Game one is set for 3 p.m. and game two is set to follow at 5 p.m.
