IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Widener softball team swept Immaculata on Wednesday afternoon at Immaculata to extend its winning streak to five games in a row.
In the first game, the Pride posted a 6-0 shutout against the Mighty Macs. In the nightcap, the Pride came away with a 3-1 win.
The pair of victories put the Pride at 7-3 on the season. It also marked the first time Widener has won five straight games since 2020, when it started 5-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST IMMACULATA IN GAME ONE
- Scoreless through three innings, the Pride pushed across four of their six runs in the fourth inning. Sam McCarthy led the charge in the frame, hitting a two-run double and scoring a run on a sacrifice from Mikayla Fedele. Malia Calciano also had an RBI single in the inning.
- The Pride scored their final two runs of the game on a pair of sacrifice flies. Liz Renavitz brought home Kelly Dodgson on her sacrifice fly to right field in the fifth inning and Becca Buckman pushed across Renavitz on a sacrifice fly to right in the seventh.
- McCarthy and Fedele combined for a three-hit shutout on the mound. Fedele earned the win on the hill after throwing four innings of relief and yielding only two hits. McCarthy started the game and allowed only one hit while striking out three batters and walking only two.
- Dodgson, Becca Tiley, and Ally McDowell each went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run for Widener in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST IMMACULATA IN GAME TWO
- With the game tied at 1 through four innings, the Pride grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth after Fedele hit an RBI single to bring home McDowell, who tripled to lead off the frame.
- Then, the Pride added their insurance run in the seventh after Mikaela Lovell smacked an RBI single to score McDowell.
- McDowell, Lovell, and Calciano each went 2-for-3 at the dish to pace the Pride. Calciano had an RBI single in the fourth inning.
- Renavitz earned the win on the mound in relief after allowing only three hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched. The first-year pitcher is now 3-2 on the season.
