HISTORIC RUN
Widener will be making its first appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Final this Saturday. The team made it to the semifinals in two of the previous three seasons, but came up just short in both. A win against Messiah would also represent the Pride's first trip to the NCAA Tournament and its first season with two postseason wins.
LAST TIME OUT
- Widener won its first conference postseason game in program history when it defeated York (Pa.) 1-0 in overtime of the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals on Wednesday.
- Jess Alba scored the game-winning goal three minutes into overtime on a pass through traffic by Madi Radnoff.
- First year goalkeeper Kylie Haberstroh came up with seven saves to keep the Spartans scoreless as the defense delivered its ninth clean sheet of the season.
- Maddie Hoyer made perhaps the most crucial defensive play of the game with less than a minute left in regulation when she swiped away a centering pass in front of the cage that would have allowed York a wide-open opportunity on goal.
- The Pride came away with the win despite being edged 13-6 in shots and 9-7 in penalty corners.
SERIES HISTORY
- Widener is 3-26 against Messiah all-time in a series that dates back to 1993.
- The Pride's last win over the Falcons came in a 4-0 rout at home on October 14, 2006.
- Messiah currently holds a 16-game winning streak over WU.
LAST MEETING VS. MESSIAH
- On Oct. 23, Alba scored twice as the Pride completed a comeback from down two scores to force overtime against the Falcons.
- Messiah forward Lauren Seubert logged her second goal on a penalty stroke with 7:48 remaining in OT to end the match and give the Falcons a 3-2 decision.
- Haberstroh delivered eight saves on the afternoon.
- Gianna Perna and Jesse Schlosser each added an assist.
SCOUTING THE PRIDE
- Widener boasts an impressive scoring margin of 2.85, a mark good for first in the conference and 11th nationally. It is tied with Messiah for the fewest goals allowed (16) and leads the MACC with 68 goals scored.
- The Pride's potent offense features three of the MAC Commonwealth's top-10 goal scorers – Radnoff, Erin Callahan, and Alba.
- Jesse Schlosser is tied with Radnoff for a team-high seven assists.
- Haberstroh owns a league-best goals against average of .877 and save percentage of .784.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
- Messiah is coming off a 1-0 win over Alvernia in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals. Junior Nicole Shank scored the match's lone goal with 10 minutes to play in regulation.
- The Falcons are currently on an eight-game win streak and have not dropped a match since September 29 when it fell 2-1 to Ursinis.
- Messiah goalie Catie Brubaker holds the conference's second best GAA behind Haberstroh at .992.
- Senior Jennie Young leads the MAC Commonwealth in assists with eight and ranks fourth in points with 26.
MAJOR MILESTONES
- Haberstroh's 14 wins and nine shutouts in a single season rank second all-time in program history.
- Radnoff has moved up the Widener record books in several offensive categories including: career points (third - 81), career goals (fourth - 32), single season points (third - 37), single season goals (third - 15), career assists (sixth - 17).
