MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Widener University men's swimming team swept Messiah, King's, and Hood in a quad meet Saturday at Messiah University.
The Pride posted a 120-83 victory over Messiah, a 144-55 win over King's, and a 152-49 victory over Hood. The Blue and Gold pushed their record to 5-1 on the season with the three wins.
The Pride earned their victories after winning seven of the 11 events and receiving 16 top-three finishes on the day.
Leading the way was
Jason Mongiovi, who won three events — the 200-yard freestyle, 200 butterfly, and 200 breaststroke. The first-year swimmer won the free in 1:51.27, the fly in 1:59.75, and the breast in 2:14.80.
The Pride also saw
Shane Douthit come away with two wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles. A first-year swimmer as well, Douthit took the 50 free in 22.57 and touched the wall first in the 100 free in 49.77.
In addition,
Daniel Parker won the 200 backstroke and the 200 freestyle relay team of Parker, Josh Cunningham,
Berkay Ozgen, and
Kyle Cantrell won its event. Parker posted a 2:08.20 in the 200 back while the 200 free relay won in 1:30.35.
The Pride also received a second-place finish from Parker in the 200 IM, a second from Cunningham in the 200 fly, a second from
Patrick Rankin in the 200 back, a second from
Shane Hubbard in the 1,000 freestyle, a second from their 200 medley relay team, a third-place finish from Cantrell in the 200 free, a third from Ozgen in the 50 free, a third from Hubbard in the 500 free, and a third from
Zach Anderson in the 200 back.
