Lehan Takes Gold and Two Silvers as Men’s Swimming Captures Fifth

YORK, Pa. – Sophomore Sean Lehan defended his title at MAC Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center while Widener men's swimming took fifth overall.
 
The Pride swam to 801.5 points and placed 5th out of 11 teams.

DAY 1 – THURSDAY (174.5 Total Points | 4th Place)
  • Thursday finals opened with a bang as Sean Lehan took first for the second year straight in the 500-yard free. Lehan would capture a 4:41.44 to win by two seconds.
  • The C Final showed Benjamin Holub touching in a 5:09.40.
  • In the B Final of the 200-yard individual medley, Seth Phillips took third with a 2:03.73, just bettering his prelim swim. Adam Bailey took seventh with a 2:06.41.
  • The 50-yard free gave Zach Delgado a tie for fourth with Matt Beaney from Stevens. Delgado hit the pad in a 22.47 that matched his morning sprint.
  • Bryce Garber won the C Final in the 50-yard free with a 22.44 while Marcus Moreef took third with a 22.78.
  • The quad of Matthew Niro, Phillips, Bailey, and Delgado took fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:38.81. 
DAY 2 – FRIDAY (422.5 Total Points | 4th Place)
  • In the 200-yard free relay, Niro, Naveen Boggi, Delgado, and Bryce Garber took fifth with a final time of 1:28.88. Delgado would lead the splits with a 21.90.
  • Bailey snuck into the B Final in the 400-yard individual medley as he touched in a 4:34.74 after his 4:28.20 morning swim.
  • Phillips would capture first in the C Final with a 4:30.91 while Holub took third with a 4:38.15 to drop from the morning.
  • Niro's 100-yard butterfly would be a fourth-place finish with a 51.78 to cut .5 off his preliminary swim. Delgado would take third in the B Final with a 54.77.
  • John Halloran won the C Final with Collin Ergood coming in sixth. Halloran clocked a 55.59 while Ergood swam in a 58.15.
  • Lehan continued his final streak with a silver in the 200-yard free. The sophomore would touch with a 1:44.10 to drop two seconds from the morning.
  • Noah Fedo and Boggi would finish back-to-back with Fedo leading in a 1:55.43. Boggi hit the wall in a 1:56.14.
  • The night would be capped off with a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Niro, Phillips, Bailey, and Delgado showcased a 3:38.94.
DAY 3 – SATURDAY (611.5 Total Points | 5th Place)
  • A long Saturday night finals session opened with Bailey sneaking into the A Final in the 200-yard butterfly. The 2:06.00 would follow his prelims 2:02.79 swim. 
  • Halloran and Ergood came back-to-back the B Final with a 2:10.37 and 2:14.11 respectively.
  • Niro's A Final swim in the 100-yard backstroke showed a 54.56 while Garber took fifth in the B Final in 56.59.
  • The 100-yard breaststroke showed a 1:01.82 for Michael Machristie as he dropped from the prelim swim. 
  • Marcus Moreef's C Final showed a 1:04.85 to also drop time.
  • Finals would be wrapped up with a bronze in the 800-yard free relay as Lehan, Bailey, Ergood, and Phillips touched in a 7:25.31.
DAY 4 – SUNDAY (801.5 Total Points | 5th Place)
  • Lehan took silver in the 1650-yard free with a 16:43.78 to begin the fourth night of competition. From earlier in the afternoon, Holub wrapped up his mile with an 18:09.77.
  • Boggi would swim in a 50.38 in the B Final of the 100-yard free. Delgado won the C Final with a 49.97 which won by 0.3 seconds. Marcus Moreef would sneak into finals with a 51.55 from the morning and drop to a 51.30.
  • The 200-yard backstroke showed Niro capturing first in the B Final with a 2:00.64. Garber took second in the C Final with a 2:08.91.
  • The 200-yard breaststroke final held Machristie in the A Final. Machristie would touch in a 2:15.39.
  • Phillips took seventh in the B Final with a 2:18.74 for a two second drop from prelims. 
  • The meet wrapped up with the Pride taking sixth overall in the 400-yard free relay. Niro, Boggi, Phillips, and Delgado would touch with a 3:19.63.
