First Half Summary
Starting off slow, both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net, exchanging missed shots in the opening four minutes and forcing a Widener timeout. After the break, Arcadia strung together a 12-0 run to go up 17-2 at the 14:37 mark.
Kenny Lewis broke the scoreless draught for the Pride with a nice post move for an easy layup. Trailing by 22 with a little less than nine minutes left in the first,
Connor Laverty hit a sweet turnaround jumper from the foul line then came back on the very next possession and sank a three, narrowing the gap 17. The Pride defense forced a turnover and seconds later Laverty pulled up from deep again, netting another trey ball.
Arcadia used its first timeout up 14 points at the 6:58 mark, attempting to halt the Widener run. After the stoppage, the Pride defense stood tall, causing another turnover on an offensive foul. The teams continued trading layups and the Pride faced a 16-point deficit five minutes before the break. Laverty kept the pressure, getting hacked on a dunk attempt and hitting both free throws, cutting it to 14. An Arcadia jumper on the next play deflated the Pride momentum.
Ryan McMahon heaved a half court bomb, making the shot as the game clock expired, but the Knights ended the first on a 9-3 run and headed into the locker rooms up 43-23.
Second Half Summary
Laverty stayed aggressive, recording the first points of the half. An Arcadia three-pointer followed, and then
Elijah Boyd got a layup to keep the margin below 20. Swapping baskets, the Knights' advantage hovered around 20 points for the next five minutes. A 7-1 Arcadia run spanning a minute and 32 seconds increased the lead to 30 with 12:40 to play. Consecutive buckets from Boyd momentarily cooled the fire, but AU held a 31-point edge with just over eight minutes remaining.
As time wound down, the hill was too steep to climb. The Knights carried their lead until the final whistle, ending the Pride's historic season.
