Baseball’s Barnett & McDonough Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Laurels

LIVONIA, Mich. (May 4, 2017) – Widener University's Bob Barnett (Glenolden, Pa.) and Greg McDonough (Ambler, Pa.) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District IV Academic All-America Baseball Team, as announced by the national organization on Thursday afternoon.
 
Barnett, who was a CoSIDA Academic All-American last year, is being recognized for the second straight season. The four-year starting outfielder has received All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth postseason laurels three times, ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades twice and has also been named the MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year. Barnett, will enter the conference tournament with a .303 batting average, 37 hits, 23 runs batted in and 22 runs scored. Furthermore, he has stolen 11 bases to date.
 
Like Barnett, McDonough is receiving all-district first team recognition for the second time of his career. The senior has been a staple in the Pride lineup since his sophomore season and has made the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team twice while also garnering All-MAC Commonwealth postseason laurels three times and ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors once. McDonough currently has a .299 batting average to go along with 40 hits, 17 runs batted in and 32 runs scored this season. In addition, he has stolen 20 bases on 21 attempts and has not committed an error in the outfield this spring.
 
Following today's announcements, Widener has now had six student-athletes who have made the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in their respective sport during the 2016-17 academic year. The other honorees include Vince Char (Southampton, Pa.) and Steve Gozur (Hatfield, Pa.) of the football team, volleyball's Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, Pa.) and softball standout Katie Sterling (Middletown, Del.).
