Men's Indoor Track & Field Begins Title Defense on Day One of MAC Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Feb. 26, 2016) – The Widener men's indoor track & field team opened up the title defense on Friday afternoon at the Rauch Fieldhouse on the campus of Lehigh University.
 
Ernie Pitone (Springfield, Pa.) won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:10.86. The junior was joined on the All-MAC first team by senior Stephen Fortin (Goffstown, N.H.). Fortin recorded a time of 15:29.27.
 
Junior Sean Weiss (Spring City, Pa.) began the heptathlon with a time of 7.72 in the 60-meter dash. He added a mark of 5.58 meters (18'-3.75") in the long jump event.
 
The distance medley relay of Sean Stovall (Springfield, Pa.), Nick Pettit (Jamison, Pa.), Ross Staudt (Marlton, N.J.) and Ryan Rastatter (Havertown, Pa.) earned a fifth place. The group recorded a time of 10:49.00.

Senior Thomas Zamorski (Frenchtown, N.J.) and junior Daniel Herbster (Garnet Valley, Pa.) delieved a one-two punch in the weight throw event. Zamorski won the event with a mark of 18.03 meters (59'-2"), while Herbster added a best mark of 16.40 meters (53'-9.75").

Jabari Mani (Stratford, N.J.) finished in fourth with a toss of 15.57 meters (51'-1"), while Daniel Whalen (Morris Hillis, N.J.) added a mark of 15.16 meters (49'-9") for a sixth place finish. 
 
Senior Logan Murray (Westmont, N.J.) earned the top seed in the 60-meter hurdles. He recorded a time of 9.01 seconds to win the second heat of the preliminaries.
 
Ameer Sorrell (Port Norris, N.J.) qualified for the 60-meter dash finals. He recorded a time of 7.08 seconds for the third fastest time of the preliminary rounds.
 
The 4x200 meter relay comprised of Sorrell, Nate Sites (Loysville, Pa.), Honorio Freeland (Ridley, Pa.), and Josh Tupper (Pottstown, Pa.) earned a first place victory. The team recorded a time of 1:31.35 to narrowly defeat Lebanon Valley in a photo finish.
 
Widener will continue competing at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m.
