CHESTER, Pa. (Feb. 24, 2016) – The Widener University men's indoor track & field program will aim to capture its seventh consecutive team title at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships this weekend. The event will take place from Friday, February 26th through Saturday, February 27th and be held at the Rauch Fieldhouse on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

Widener has seven student-athletes listed as the top seed in their event.

The Pride, who lead the MAC with a conference best 14 team titles, will have three of the five top seeds in the weight throw event. Thomas Zamorski (Frenchtown, N.J.) will enter the event on Friday as the top seed with a season best toss of 17.42 meters (57'-2"), which currently ranks him 14th nationally in the event. The senior earned second-team All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors with a fifth place finish at last year's championships.

Juniors Daniel Herbster (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and Daniel Whalen (Morris Hills, N.J.) look to build off of their top-ten finishes a year ago. Herbster, who ranks third in the MAC, enters with a toss of 15.50 meters (50'-10.25"), while Whelan starts Friday with the conference's fifth best toss of 14.84 meters (48'-8.25").

Senior Ameer Sorrell (Port Norris, N.J.) and junior Josh Colley (Tunkhannock, Pa.) enter the triple jump as the number one and two seeds, respectively. Sorrell, the top seed, has a season best mark of 14.69 meters (48'-2.5"), while Colley is right on his heels with a jump of 14.42 meters (47'-3.75").

In the long jump, Colley is the number two seed with a mark of 6.88 meters (22'-7"), while Sorrell closes out the top five with a jump of 6.65 meters (21'-10"). Colley will look to defend his title as he won the event last year.

On the track, Widener will hold the top three seeds in the 3,000-meter race with juniors Ernie Pitone (Springfield, Pa.) and William McDermott (Lansdowne, Pa.) leading the way. Pitone enters the championships as the top seed with a school-record time of 8:19.72. He is also the top seed in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 14:26.18.
