Boxscore CHESTER, Pa. (Mar. 4, 2015) – Battling the intense fog that hovered over Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium Wednesday afternoon, the Widener men's lacrosse team dropped its home opener to Ursinus, 4-2.
Ursinus improves to 2-0 with the win, while Widener dips to 0-3 on the year.
Neither squad was able to find the back of the cage in the first period as the Pride's junior goalie
Chris Treat (Havertown, Pa.) and his counterpart Brian Neff registered three and two saves in the period, respectively.
After winning the opening face-off of the second period, Ursinus' Anthony Torello opened the scoring off a feed from Steve Smyrl. Less than a minute later, sophomore midfielder
Chris Sanchez (Flanders, N.J.) evened the score on an unassisted tally.
The Bears' took the lead for good as Jake Weber scored the final three goals for his team. Smyrl found the senior for his first score of the game in the 22nd minute. Just over four minutes later, Weber drilled home an unassisted effort. Smyrl and Weber teamed up once again 8:06 into the second half.
With 6:44 remaining in play, sophomore midfielder
Vince Marra (Morton, Pa.) cut the lead in half (4-2) as he beat Neff at point-blank range.
Treat had a game-high 10 saves in the loss, while Neff turned aside seven shots.

Brendan Dawson and the Pride return to action on Sunday (Mar. 8). The squad is slated to face-off at 1 p.m. against Plattsburgh at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.
