CHESTER, Pa. (Dec. 12, 2015) – Junior captain
Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) factored into four winning performances, but it wasn't enough, as the Widener University men's swimming meet dropped a dual meet to Washington College by a 147-115 decision on Saturday evening at the Schwartz Center. The Shoremen rallied to win and remain unbeaten in dual meets this winter by taking first place in the last five individual events of the night.
Gaynor was victorious in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 21.27 seconds and 1:45.30, respectively, to once again lead the way for the Pride. The junior captain edged out his competition from Washington College in the 200 by .15 seconds.
In addition, Gaynor anchored the 200 medley relay which clocked in a time of 1:38.40 and also included junior
Michael Grajek (Freehold, N.J.), classmate
Jeremy Lahn (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior
Andrew Madore (State College, Pa.). He ended the meet by swimming on the first-place 200 free relay which touched the wall in 1:26.70 also consisted of sophomore
Tom Platt (Wallingford, Pa.), junior
Jeffrey Hicks (White Haven, Pa.) and Grajek.
Other notable performances were made by Platt and Grajek. Platt won the 100 free in 49.30 seconds, while Grajek took the 100 back in 54.78.
Widener (6-3) will break for final exams and resume competition when it travels to Cabrini on Saturday, Jan. 16 for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet.
