Men's Lacrosse Headed Back to the Conference Tournament With 12-3 Victory Over Lycoming

(box score)

Freshman Tyler Schulte (Southampton, NJ) scored four goals with senior Robert Clemens (Aston, PA) and sophomore Tim Taylor (Philadelphia, PA) getting four assists each for Widener, which cruised to a 12-3 Commonwealth Conference victory over Lycoming at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

The victory along with losses by both Lebanon Valley and Elizabethtown secured a spot in the conference tournament for Widener.  The Pride (7-4, 5-0 CC) remain tied with Stevenson (12-1, 5-0) atop the league and the two face each other next Wednesday at 7:00 pm in Owings Mills, MD.

Widener scored eight straight goals bridging the second and third quarters to take a 9-1 lead in a contest in which it owned a 51-14 shots edge, including 32-7 combined in the middle two periods.

Sophomore Marc LaVine (Nashua, NH) put Widener ahead for good with 7:56 left in the second for a 2-1 lead to open the floodgates.  Clemens, Taylor and freshman Nick Striebich (Ellicott City, MD) also scored later in the period to give Widener a 5-1 halftime lead.

The Pride wasted little time in the second half as Schulte's goal 11 seconds in continued the barrage.  He added another in the run with Taylor and Striebich also tallying for the 9-1 margin.

Schulte reached his season high in goals with Clemens and Taylor just falling short of career highs in assists.  For Clemens, he became the fourth player in school history to reach 100 career assists.

LaVine scored three goals with Taylor and Striebich netting two apiece.

Junior Trevor Alspach (Willingboro, NJ) again played great at the dot by winning 15-of-17 face-offs and moved his winning percentage this season to .605 (72-of-119).  He and senior Timothy Winslow (Newbury, MA) each had a game-high seven ground balls.

Christian Jacobs scored twice, Matt McCaffer added one and Sean Reilly had an assist for the Warriors (6-7, 4-2).  Alex Wylly was a busy man in closing with 18 saves.
