Men's Lacrosse Takes Control in the Third Quarter for a 10-3 Victory Over Hood

(box score)

Sophomore Tim Taylor (Philadelphia, PA) scored twice in the decisive third quarter as part of his career-best five goals when Widener netted five en route to a 10-3 Commonwealth Conference victory over Hood at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Widener held a 4-1 lead midway through the third quarter before scoring five straight goals in just over seven minutes for an eight-goal margin.  In addition to Taylor's exploits, senior Robert Clemens (Aston, PA) and Marc Feldman (Macungie, PA) had a goal and an assist with fellow freshman Nick Striebich (Ellicott City, MD) also scoring for the Pride.

Taylor was the story, needing only eight shots to better his career high of four goals accomplished twice last season.  He now leads the squad with 13 goals and 20 points.

Sophomore Marc LaVine (Nashua, NH) had two goals and three assists, Clemens dished three assists, Feldman notched five ground balls and junior Trevor Alspach (Willingboro, NJ) won 12-of-15 face-offs.

Senior All-America Mac Nestler (Chatham, NJ) made six saves in just under 58 minutes for Widener, which posted a 44-15 shots edge and has won three of its last four outings.

Patrick O'Brien, Brett Humphreys and Tai Foster all scored for the Blazers and Joseph Muculloh made 15 saves.

Widener is back home Wednesday against Albright, starting at 7:00 pm.  The Pride have knocked the Lions out of the conference tournament the last two years and three of their four all-time meetings have gone to overtime.
