Men's Lacrosse Dominates Alvernia, 19-3

Widener opened Commonwealth Conference play with a punishing 19-3 victory over Alvernia on Monday in Reading, PA.
 
Widener (3-3, 1-0 CC) put on a scoring clinic with eight goals in the first half and 11 in the second.

Freshman midfielder Marc Feldman (Macungie, PA) got the ball rolling for the Pride with a goal seven minutes into the opening quarter.  Feldman scored twice on the day on only two shots to bring his season total to three goals. 
 
Sophomore attackman Matt Natale (Pottstown, PA) added two more goals in the opening quarter to make the score 3-0 at the first break.  Natale shot a perfect 4-of-4 to bring his season total to five goals.  
 
In the second quarter, sophomore Marc LaVine (Nashau, NH) scored twice to increase the Pride lead.  LaVine, previously with two goals on the year, scored five times on only seven shots against the Crusaders.  He also added four assists in the game and one groundball to lead the Pride. 
 
With eight seconds remaining in the first half, sophomore Tim Taylor (Philadelphia, PA) scored off a pass from senior Timothy Winslow (Newbury, MA) to make the score 8-1.  Taylor scored two goals and dished out four assists on the day. 
 
The second half resulted in more of the same as the Pride clearly held the offensive advantage over the Crusaders. 
 
Off the bench, freshman Tyler Schulte (Southhampton, NJ) added two goals and now stands fourth on the team with five on the season.  Sophomore midfielder Bryan Shields (Nazareth, PA) also scored twice in the second half to help secure the victory.   
 
Widener looks to win its third in a row on Wednesday at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium against No. 19 Gettysburg at 7:00 pm.
