Men's Basketball Witnesses a Close 77-74 Loss to Albright

(box score)

Sophomore guard Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, PA) had a career day on Saturday as Widener fell to Albright, 77-74, in Commonwealth Conference action.

These two teams previously met on December 14 at Widener, in which the Lions squeaked by, 78-74, over the Pride.

On Saturday, Widener (8-9, 2-8 CC) held a commanding 22-13 advantage early in the game, but the lead diminished by halftime as the teams went into the locker room with Albright ahead 32-31.   Byrd scored 15 points in the first half on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.  He finished with 27 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.

Coming out strong in the second half, the Pride tied the score on multiple occasions, but were unable to carry that momentum into a win.

Junior forward Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) secured his 11th double-double of the season by scoring 10 points and bringing down 16 rebounds.  Lawson now ranks fourth in the nation in double-doubles and seventh with 12.3 rebounds per game.

Fellow junior Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) finished with eight rebounds and nine points with senior forward Rob McPherson (Bowie, MD) leading Widener with five assists and two blocks.

Junior Mark Pryzbylkowski (New Egypt, NJ) and sophomore David Nicholson (Odenton, MD) both came off the bench to play significant minutes for the Pride.  Pryzbylkowski went 2-of-4 from 3-point range to score six points, and Nicholson added 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field.

Albright (10-7, 6-4) was led by Sameen Swint with 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting and Pedro Perez netted 21 points on 8-of-20 shooting.  Sam Marrella led the Lions with 10 assists and Kyle Jordan added five rebounds.

Widener returns to action Wednesday at Lebanon Valley beginning at 8:00 pm.
