Men's and Women's Swimming Each Fall to Washington (MD)

Widener posted six victories on the night between its men's and women's teams against Washington (MD), but the women were handed a 121-84 setback and the men were dealt a 131-72 loss at Schwartz Center.
 
Senior All-America Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) had a hand in all three women's wins, taking two individual crowns by grabbing the 50-yard freestyle in 25.22 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.06.  She also was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay that included senior Sara Leonelli (Vineland, NJ), sophomore Erin Neugebauer (Eden Prairie, MN) and senior Carly Wray (Ocean View, NJ).
 
Among the second-place finishers, Leonelli swam the 100-yard freestyle in 57.09 seconds and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.11.  Senior Jennifer Barkofski (Norristown, PA) raced the 200-yard IM in 2:20.42 and Neugebauer closed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.54.
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay team ended second in 1:50.91 and included Wray as well as seniors Carli Rapp (Reading, PA), Kerry McIntyre (Wilmington, DE) and Kaitlin Harnish (Haverford, PA).
 
Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) kept rolling along in his monster freshman campaign, staking claim to all three of the men's triumphs.  He won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.27 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 46.83 seconds.  He also was in the mix with the 200-yard freestyle relay squad that won in 1:28.08 and included senior Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA), sophomore Stephen Ranalli (Wildwood, NJ) and freshman Michael Grajek (Freehold, NJ).
 
Lawley grabbed second in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.53 seconds and Grajek took second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.77.
 
The 200-yard medley relay closed second in 1:41.41 and included Lawley, Ranalli, junior Andrew Olchowecky (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Jeremy Lahn (Philadelphia, PA).  The second 200-yard freestyle relay squad took silver in 1:41.12 and included junior Vadim Belogorodsky (Huntington Valley, PA) as well as freshmen Shimron George (St. Andrew, Grenada), Jacob Lightman (Turnersville, NJ) and Eric Farrington (Neptune, NJ).
 
Widener has its final dual meet of the season Saturday, January 25 at Elizabethtown, starting at 1:00 pm.
