Men's Basketball Battles Hard, But Sees Season End With 79-73 Loss to Arcadia

(box score)

Widener played very tough against a determined squad in Arcadia, but in the end was handed a 79-73 Commonwealth Conference loss at Schwartz Center.

Down as many as 16 points in the first half, Widener scored seven straight points in just over a minute to close to a 46-46 tie with 13:15 left.  Sophomore Mark Pryzbylkowski (New Egypt, NJ) capped the run with a huge 3-pointer that brought the crowd to its feet.

Arcadia looked to take back the momentum, scoring the next eight points to open a 54-46 lead with 10:16 remaining.  Khalief Trawick scored three points in the spurt as did John Landro, who ended it with a 3-pointer.

The margin eventually grew to 63-53 with 5:29 left, but the Pride refused to quit as they netted the next six points for a 63-59 deficit with 4:03 to play.  Sophomore Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) and junior Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) each had three points in that run.

But the Knights found a way.  Aaron Lee-Web made two free throws with 3:56 to play and Trawick added a layup with 3:41 to go for a 67-59 contest.  After Lawson's layup, Jose Figueroa made a layup with 3:15 remaining and Travis Saltus added two free throws with 2:23 to play for a 71-61 contest.

Sophomore Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) played great with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Pride (6-19, 5-13 CC).  Lawson and Makor each ended with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Trawick, who reached 1,000 career points today, netted a game-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting with Saltus adding 13.  Landro scored 13 points and Colin McCarthy had 10 and eight rebounds for the Knights (15-10, 10-8), who shot 44 percent (25-of-57) from the floor.
