Men's Basketball Witnesses First Loss of Season From Cabrini 111-99

Widener fought hard but fell in the end to No. 9 Cabrini, 111-99, at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Aston, PA.

Widener (5-1) went down 63-47 at halftime, but fought back to win the second half of play 52-48.

The Pride forced 16 turnovers and outrebounded the Cavaliers 41-35. Cabrini's 55-percent shooting from the field and 94 percent from the line proved to be the difference in the matchup.

Junior forward Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) recorded his fourth double-double of the very young season. Lawson finished with a team-leading 21 points on 8-of-10 from the floor and defensively adding 11 rebounds, one block and one steal. Lawson is averaging 15.7 points on a .630 field goal percentage and a dominating 13.5 rebounds throughout the first six games of the season.

Falling one rebound short of a double-double, senior captain Rob McPherson (Bowie, MD), scored 17 points and brought down nine rebounds against the Cavaliers (5-0). McPherson leads Widener with 18 points per game and 15 total made 3-pointers.

Fellow captain, senior Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) came off the bench to add 11 points and two rebounds for the Pride.

Sophomore guard Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, PA) scored a season-high 18 points, and junior Mark Pryzbylkowski (New Egypt, NJ) added seven points and a team-high four assists. Pryzbylkowski leads the team with 22 assists in the season.

With five rebounds and eight points, junior Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ), continued to be a solid contributor for the Widener starting five.

Freshman Sardayah Sambo (Middletown, DE) shot 4-of-9 for nine points and brought down three rebounds.

Widener will be back in action at Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
