Men's Lacrosse Breaks the Ice With 14-8 Victory at Frostburg State

Widener raced to a seven-goal lead at three-quarter time and was on its way to a 14-8 triumph at Frostburg State in Frostburg, MD.
 
Widener gained the early edge with a 7-4 halftime cushion thanks to two goals apiece from juniors Josh Fox (Wynnewood, PA) and Ryan Eidenshink (Elkins Park, PA).  Sophomore Robert Clemens (Aston, PA) dished two assists in the half.
 
The Pride really began to pull away in the third quarter with four goals.  Senior Ryan Shewell (Ellicott City, MD) opened the scoring with 9:44 left to give Widener an 8-4 lead.  The visitors then got two goals from Clemens and one from senior Michael Bassani (Califon, NJ) in the final 2:31 for an 11-4 cushion.
 
Eidenshink amassed three goals and two assists with Clemens totaling two goals and two assists for the Pride (1-4), who owned a 47-24 shots edge.  Fox, Shewell and senior Brian Rogers (Malvern, PA) also scored twice and junior Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) made four saves.
 
Chris Rios scored three goals, Devin Colegrove netted two, Ryan Serio had a goal and two assists, and Tyler Haines made 13 saves for the Bobcats (2-4).
 
The victory was the first at Widener for coach Brendan Dawson.  He arrived after coaching one year at Aurora College, where he went 11-6 last season.
 
Widener next Saturday visits Dickinson for a 3:00 pm start in Carlisle, PA.
