Men's Lacrosse Handed 14-8 Loss at Ursinus

Despite four goals from senior Ryan Shewell (Ellicott City, MD), Widener ran into a scoring machine in the second half and was dealt a 14-8 loss at Ursinus in Collegeville, PA.
 
Junior Ryan Eidenshink (Elkins Park, PA) scored 85 seconds into the second half to bring Widener to a 5-5 tie.  But the Bears netted three straight to open an 8-5 lead as Mark Stratton scored a man-down goal, Dave Kraus tallied even strength and Jake Weber added a man-up marker.
 
Ursinus, which scored nine times after intermission, then netted the first three goals of the fourth quarter for a 12-6 cushion.  Kraus, Stratton and Dave Spangenburg all tallied in a span of just over 2 1/2 minutes.
 
Shewell needed just six shots to reach his total in which three of his goals were in the second quarter.  Eidenshink scored twice with senior Mark Kane (Morton, PA) and junior Josh Fox (Wynnewood, PA) adding one apiece.
 
Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) made six saves and fellow junior Charlie Bytheway (Glen Mills, PA) had as many ground balls for the Pride (0-2).
 
Stratton netted five goals with Kraus, Spangenburg and Weber getting two each for the Bears (1-0).  T.J. Magnani closed with eight saves.
 
Widener is home Saturday against Swarthmore as part of the “320 Challenge,” beginning at 1:00 pm at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
