Swimming Splits Against Washington College

Widener's men's and women's swim teams traveled to Chestertown, MD to take on Washington College and left with a split decision as the women won 123-77 and the men lost 121-72.
 
The women (6-3, 5-0) secured eight first place titles, with Colleen Tighe (Linwood, NJ) and Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD) each winning two individual races.
 
In both the 1,000 and 500-yard freestyle races, Tighe and Alicia Jenkins (Downingtown, PA) combined for a one-two punch. Tighe took first in both, finishing in 11:13.45 in the 1,000—45 seconds ahead of any Washington swimmer—and 5:32.21 in the 500 with a seven second lead. Jenkins took second in both with times of 11:33.28 in the 1,000—25 seconds ahead of the third-place Washington swimmer—and 5:39.41 in the 500.
 
The women's 200-yard medley relay squad that took second in 2:03.39 was comprised of Annie Walker (New Castle, DE), Kerry McIntyre (Wilmington, DE), Rachel Lewinson (West Windsor, NJ), and Carli Rapp (Reading, PA). Lewinson also took home the gold in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:07.12. Lake touched in first in both the 50-yard freestyle (by less than a second) and the 100-yard backstroke. Following close behind in the backstroke were teammates Walker and Kaitlin Harnish (Havertown, PA), who finished second and third, respectively.
 
Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) succeeded in winning the 100-yard freestyle with a six second lead with a time of 2:06.46. Jenkins and Harris paired up with McIntyre and Rose Matich (Mount Royal, NJ) to take the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:49.50, touching in just one second ahead of Washington.
 
The men (3-6, 3-2) swam well, winning three first place titles and five second place. Vadim Belogorodsky (Huntingdon Valley, PA) took the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:48.47 by a margin of 12 seconds. William Gelgot (Lebanon, PA) finished second in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races, with respective times of 1:50.35 and 5:04.53.
 
Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA) did his team well by securing two wins, finishing with a time of 22.31 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 54.87 in the 100-yard backstroke. Ray Conover (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ)  and Andy Madore (State College, PA) took second in their races. Conover finished in 2:14.39 in the 200-yard IM while Madore touched in with a time of 1:04.25 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
 
Lawley, Madore, Gelgot and Stephen Ranalli (Wildwood, NJ) combined for second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:42.56.
 
Both teams will be hosting Cabrini on Saturday, January 12 beginning at 1:00 pm.
