Men's and Women's Swimming Drop Meet At Swarthmore

Widener men's and women's swimming took on Swarthmore tonight as part of the annual “320 Challenge” and came home with two losses with the men falling 108-59 and the women losing 112-84.
 
For the men's side (1-3, 1-1), William Gelgot (Lebanon, PA) took home two individual first place titles, finishing the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.84 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.14. He was followed by Vadim Belogorodsky (Huntingdon Valley, PA) in the 500-yard freestyle, who finished second with a time of 5:24.89. Andrew Olchowecky (Philadelphia, PA) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.92 and Michael Lawley (Philadelphia, PA) took second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.65. Lawley and Olchowecky, along with Andy Madore (State College, PA) and Stephen Ranalli (Wildwood, NJ), were part of the second place 400-yard medley relay squad that finished in 3:50.65.
 
The women's team (2-2, 2-0) saw Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD) close the 200-yard backstroke in 2:16.05 for first place, followed closely by Annie Walker (New Castle, DE), who finished in 2:19.59. Lake also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.06 and Walker took second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:22.02, just two seconds shy of first. Sara Leonelli (Vineland, NJ) took first place in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:38.04 and second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.37. Alicia Jenkins (Downingtown, PA) and Laura Harris (Phoenix, MD) each placed second in their race; Jenkins finished the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:59.91 and Harris the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.93. Walker, Leonelli, Harris and Carly Wray (Ocean View, NJ) were a part of the 400-yard medley relay team that closed second in 4:15.17. Wray also took third in the 100-yard freestyle in 57.98.
 
Both teams will be traveling to Grantham, PA to take part in the Messiah Quad-Meet to face Messiah, FDU-Florham and Hood this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
