Perry Wright Named Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Widener senior Perry Wright (Severn, MD) came up with two big games last week and was rewarded by being named the Commonwealth Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Wright averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over two contests.  He scored 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting with seven rebounds and four 3-pointers Wednesday in the Pride's 64-54 victory Lebanon Valley.  Wright came back Saturday with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 99-90 triumph at Alvernia to get Widener back to .500 in the conference.

It has been another standout year for Wright at forward.  He is fourth in the league with 15.6 points per game, 10th with 6.1 rebounds per contest, fifth with a .747 free throw percentage, third with 2.4 steals per game, 12th with 1.3 three-pointers per contest and fourth with 2.3 offensive rebounds per game.

His play has Widener (13-6, 4-4 CC) tied for third place in the conference with victories in three of its last four outings.

Widener is home Wednesday against Elizabethtown at 8:00 pm.  The women's team on Wednesday will take part in the initiative to “Play 4Kay” during its 6:00 pm contest as donations will be accepted for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to help find a cure for cancer.
