Men's Lacrosse to Face Cabrini in First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday

Widener, now the 13-time Middle Atlantic Conference champions, will visit Cabrini in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday.

Game time in Radnor, PA is yet to be determined.

Widener (15-2, 11-0 MAC) will make its ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament and has won two games. It notched an 11-9 victory at Kenyon in 2006 and an 8-5 triumph at Denison in 2007.

The Pride recorded their sixth league crown in seven years with Saturday's 11-6 triumph over Messiah. Senior Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after scoring three times Saturday. Junior Josh Fox (Wynnewood, PA) and senior JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) each added two goals and an assist.

The victory extended Widener's school record for victories in a season to 15 as well as its team-best winning streak to 13. The Pride are now 22-3 all-time in the MAC Tournament and 11-1 in the championship game with no final held for their first two crowns.

The Pride entered the MAC Tournament as the top seed for the first time since 2006 and went undefeated in the league for the first time since 2003.

Widener gets a huge boost from senior Nick Politarhos (Ridley, PA), who has enjoyed another standout campaign and is the anchor for one of the area's top defenses. The two-time Honorable Mention Preseason All-America leads the Pride with 26 caused turnovers and senior Matt Parrott (Downingtown, PA) is next with 25.

Foxpaces Widener with 30 goals and 47 points with sophomore Johnny Casey (Abington, PA) next at 27 and 45. Fox is tied for sixth in the league in goals, tied for sixth with 17 assists and fourth in points. Casey is 10th in the conference in goals, tied for third with 18 assists and tied for fifth in points.

Sophomore Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) and freshman Mac Nestler (Chatham, NJ) have led a goalkeeping tandem that is first in the league with a 5.53 goals-against average.

Cabrini (12-5) won the Colonial States Athletic Conference with a 9-6 victory Saturday over Marywood.

This will be the second NCAA Tournament game between the schools. Cabrini notched a 13-8 first-round win over Widener on May 7, 2003.
