Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Alvernia, 24-4, to Conclude Undefeated Regular Season in the MAC

(box score)

Widener tied two school records and completed its first undefeated run in the Middle Atlantic Conference since 2003 with a 24-4 rout at Alvernia in Reading, PA to close the regular season.

Senior Steve Cull (Havertown, PA) scored five goals with freshman Robert Clemens (Aston, PA) and junior Whitney Bruemmer (Southampton, PA) getting three apiece.  Sophomore WIll Roe (Centreville, MD) dished five assists and Clemens had four.

The Pride (13-2, 11-0 MAC) tied the school record for victories in a season, also accomplished by the team in 1998, 1999, 2006 and 2007. The squad's 11-game winning streak also matches a team high set in 2002.

Widener also outscored its league opponents 158-50 this season, yielding more than six goals in just one contest.

The squad already had locked up the number one seed for next week's MAC Tournament. Widener will host a semifinal on Wednesday, May 4 at 7:00 pm against the lowest remaining seed following Monday's first-round games.

Six teams qualify for the tournament and the top two receive first-round byes.
