Men's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, 90-84 at Occidental

(box score)

Widener built a 16-point lead and held off a furious rally for its fourth straight victory, 90-84 at Occidental in Los Angeles, CA.

Widener (8-2), which led in game's final 37 minutes, scored seven straight points in just over a minute for a 72-56 lead with 8:42 left.  Sophomore Andrew Radomicki (Media, PA) hit a 3-pointer in that span and junior Lamar Jackson (Philadelphia, PA) ended it on a layup.

The Tigers (4-5) would not fold, using a 13-2 spurt over four minutes for a 79-76 deficit with 2:47 remaining.  Jack Hanley scored five points in the run and Sam Stapleton capped it with a 3-pointer.

But a key moment happened with 2:17 to play when Radomicki stole the ball from starting center Conrad Liebowitz, who proceeded to commit his fifth foul.  Radomicki buried two free throws to give the Pride an 81-76 lead.

Stapleton hit 1-of-2 from the line with 1:55 to bring the Tigers within 81-77.  But Jackson's layup 1:22 remaining gave Widener an 83-77 lead and sophomore Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) connected on 1-of-2 from the stripe with 60 seconds to play for a seven-point game.

Senior Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) had 23 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and 10th career.  Jackson scored 16 points, Radomicki netted 15 off the bench and senior Perry Wright (Severn, MD) added 14.

Hanley scored 22 points, Liebowitz posted 13 and 10 rebounds with Deshun McCoy and Jake Copithorne netting 14 points apiece for the Tigers.

The Pride shot 50 percent (12-of-24) from the floor in the second half, 46 percent (29-of-63) overall and forced 26 turnovers.

Widener, off to its best start since the 2007-08 season, on Monday visits Whittier for a 10:30 pm Eastern Time start in Whittier, CA.
