Men’s Basketball Gains 115-47 Win Over Penn State Mont Alto

In the opening game of the 2011 Widener Tip-Off Classic, Widener got off to a fast start in taking a 115-47 victory over Penn State Mont Alto at Schwartz Center to move into the championship game.
 
In the first half, Perry Wright (Severn, MD) shot 6-for-8 in field goal attempts and 3-for-5 in 3-point field goal attempts, and Brian Smith (Baltimore, MD) went 5-for-6 in field goal attempts, 2-for-2 in three-point field goal attempts, and 1-for-1 in free throws to help pace the Pride's shooting success. Smith also lended a hand with his five assists.
 
Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) led the Pride (2-0) with seven rebounds, six of which were on defense. Fields also provided nine points. Widener had a total of 21 steals, six of which came from Wright and five from Smith.
 
For Penn State Mont Alto (2-1), Jeremiah Michael led the scoring with 11 points, followed closely behind by Cameron Bowen with eight.
 
Game two of the Tip-Off Classic was a closer game, but ­­­­­­­­­­­­­SUNY Cortland (2-0) won over Delaware Valley 71-58.  SUNY Cortland held a 36-28 lead going into the second half of the game. Jeremy Beckett led Delaware Valley (0-2) in scoring with 22 total points, as well as adding nine rebounds, eight of which were defensive, and five steals. For Cortland, both Jesse Winter and Brian Manning shot for 18 total points. Harrison Hefele had five assists and eight total rebounds.
 
The consolation game between Penn State Mont Alto and Delaware Valley will begin tomorrow at 1:00 pm and SUNY Cortland continues on to face Widener in the Championship game at 3:00 pm.
