Track & Field Continues to Set the Pace at the McElligott Invitational

Widener again put up some quality finishes as it took part in the Seamus McElligott Invitational in Haverford, PA.

The men's 4x400 relay team ended third in 3:32.21 and consisted of senior Mark Benedetto (Vineland, NJ), junior Sean McCarthy (Ellicott City, MD), William Betts (Wayne, PA) and fellow freshman Tyler Schmalhofer (Elizabethtown, PA).

Schmalhofer also closed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.43 seconds, winning his heat. Senior Robert Innocent (Fairfax, VA) was seven overall in 23.54 seconds and Betts ended 10th in 23.79 seconds.

Freshman Dennis Nguyen (Springfield, PA) finished eighth in the triple jump by clearing 12.44 meters and Benedetto was 10th in the 400-meter dash in 53.53 seconds.

Sophomore Rebecca Sewell (Hackettstown, NJ) closed sixth in the shot put, covering 10.57 meters. Senior Valisha Andrus (Pemberton, NJ) ended 10th in the 55-meter dash in 7.80 seconds to win her heat.

The Pride next Friday host the Widener Field Meet, beginning at 4:00 pm at Schwartz Center.
