Widener men's and women's track & field teams were on top of their game at the Collegeville Classic, combining for nine top-five finishes in Collegeville, PA.
Leading the charge was junior Michael Garrity (Briarcliffe, PA), who ended second in the mile in 4:27.54 and fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:01.45. Senior Robert Innocent (Fairfax, VA) won the 55-meter dash in 6.61 seconds and freshman Mick Coleman (Southampton, PA) easily grabbed the pole vault at 4.57 meters.
Tyler Schmalhofer (Elizabethtown, PA) closed second in the 200-meter dash in 23.55 seconds and fellow freshman Dennis Nguyen (Springfield, PA) was tied for second in the pole vault at 3.95 meters.
The men's 4x200-meter relay team ended third in 1:36.31 and was comprised of Innocent, Schmalhofer, junior Emmanuel Rupert (Baltimore, MD) and freshman Will Betts (Wayne, PA).
Widener finished fourth with 54.33 points, bettering Middle Atlantic Conference foes Lebanon Valley, Albright, Misericordia and Messiah.
Widener next Saturday competes at the McElligott Invitational in Haverford, PA, beginning at 11:00 am.
