Men's Lacrosse Has No Trouble With Alvernia in 21-5 Win

Widener dominated the opening quarter with 10 goals and was never headed in a 21-5 rout of Middle Atlantic Conference foe Alvernia at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium for its third win in the last four games.

 

Senior Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) scored all four of his goals in the opening quarter, including twice in the final 29 seconds, helping Widener open a 10-2 lead.  The Pride (4-5, 3-1 MAC) ended with 14-4 shots edge in the frame, a 15-4 ground ball advantage and won 11-of-13 face-offs.

 

Sophomore Nate Meyer (Jenkintown, PA) also scored four goals, Steve Cull (Havertown, PA) netted three and fellow junior JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) netted two for Widener, which ended with a 55-14 shots margin and a 46-17 advantage in ground balls.

 

Sophomore Nick Fluharty (West Grove, PA) also played a key role, winning 22-of-26 face-offs and recording 16 ground balls for the Pride.  Freshman Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) and sophomore Tommy Hoopes (West Chester, PA) each played 30 minutes, combining for three saves.

 

Jon Lozoskie (Fallston, MD) scored three goals, Drew Giberson (Conestoga, PA) dished two assists and Kevin Shupp (Cranford, NJ) had 17 saves for the Crusaders (3-7, 0-4).

Widener on Saturday visits DeSales for a 1:00 pm face-off in Center Valley, PA.
