Men's Lacrosse Handed 15-7 Loss by Lycoming

(box score)

Widener came back from a tough start only to fall behind early in the third quarter for a 15-7 Middle Atlantic Conference loss to Lycoming at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Lycoming (9-5, 7-2 MAC) quickly got out of the blocks, racing to a 6-1 lead in the first 9 1/2 minutes.  Ethan Payne scored twice and had an assist during that span.

The Pride (6-8, 5-4) scored the next three goals to gain momentum and close to 6-4 just two minutes into the second quarter.  Sophomore Nate Meyer (Jenkintown, PA), junior Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) and senior Dave Simcox (Ridley, PA) all tallied in that stretch.

Each team scored twice in the next minutes for an 8-6 game before the Warriors took over.  They netted three straight for an 11-6 margin with 5:24 left as Payne tallied a goal and an assist.

Payne was just that for Widener with six goals and four assists.  Stephen Romano netted three goals with Nate Walter and Ed Williams adding two each for the Warriors.  Alan Antinarelli made 16 saves and Mike Dogerty won 10-of-16 face-offs.

Janusz scored twice and senior Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) netted his 100th career goal for the Pride.  Freshman Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) made 16 saves.

Widener on Tuesday visits Manhattanville for a 7:00 pm face-off in Purchase, NY.
