Senior Steph Connolly (Aston, PA) had a combined four hits and four RBI for Widener, which posted a 3-1 victory over Haverford before a 6-4 loss in Chester, PA.
Widener in game one scored all its runs in the bottom of the second inning, starting with Connolly's lead-off homer for her team-leading seventh long ball of the year. Juniors Astyn DiNorscia (Parkesburg, PA) and Meg Phillips (Aston, PA) added RBI later in the frame on fielding errors.
Belle Mead, NJ senior Kim Dougherty (6-4) made it hold for her third straight win, yielding one run and four hits over five innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Liz Carpino (Philadelphia, PA) pitched two scoreless frames for her first save.
Connolly ended with three hits for Widener (20-10), which notched its ninth 20-win season and school-record fourth straight.
Lisa Karmel (4-8) was charged with three runs – two earned – and four hits over four innings with five strikeouts for the Fords (14-12). Erin Delaney had two hits and Candice Smith notched an RBI single.
Haverford in game two scored five times in the fourth inning for a 6-1 lead. Ashley Vanderbeck ripped an RBI double, Smith lifted a sacrifice fly, Cassandra Searls notched a run-scoring double and Laura Iwanyk added an RBI single.
Maggie Cronin (4-2) allowed three runs – two earned – and five hits over five innings with five strikeouts for Haverford. Lauren Gill permitted one run and two hits over two innings for the save.
Parker Ford, PA junior Kelsey Shultz (7-5) gave up six runs – three earned – and eight hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts for the Pride. Connolly had an RBI double in the first and a two-run single in the fifth.
Senior Lauren Brubaker (Newtown Square, PA) had a hit in each game and owns a seven-game hitting streak.
